I love sweaters and I’m sure you love sweaters too! There are over 8 different types of sweaters to choose from and that’s a lot! So, if you ever stopped to wonder “what kind of sweater is this?” Here’s what you need to know about the types of sweaters and where to get them online.

Boyfriend Sweater
Sadly, guys, this one isn’t for you. A boyfriend sweater is a sweater for women.
It’s basically a cardigan with a v-neck. Most boyfriend sweaters are button-down sweaters. They are also almost always over-sized.
Cardigan Sweater
Alright, boys! Your time to catch some looks. A cardigan is your typical sweater style with long sleeves and buttons down the front. Throw on a pair of pants and you’re set to go.
Cardigans do not have collars and in varying colors, whether solid colored or patterned.
Crew Neck Sweater
Crew neck or round neck sweaters are the most popular type of sweater. These unisex sweaters fit any body type and still remain stylish and comfy.
Half-Zip Sweater
Half-zip sweaters all have a zip that runs from the mid-chest area to the top of your neck. That’s where it gets its name.
Think of it as a pullover sweater but with the added option of creating a bit of breathing room on warmer days.
Turtleneck Sweater
I like that you can wear a turtleneck sweater in both casual and formal settings.
They’re turtleneck because the sweater collar extends up covering the neck (picture a turtle pulling its neck into its shell).
Mock Turtleneck Sweater
As far as types of sweater collars go it can be hard to tell the difference between a mock turtleneck and a turtleneck sweater. The easiest way I can tell the difference between the two is that the mock turtleneck has a less constrictive collar.
Raglan Sleeve Sweater
These sweaters have sleeves that extend all the way up to the neck of the sweater with no separate stitching in between.
Roll Neck Sweater
Unlike turtlenecks, roll necks have short necks. The collar can be high up but not as high up as a turtleneck. These are more casual sweaters.
Shawl Collar Sweater
Another type of sweater collar is the shawl collar. Shawl collar sweaters have collars that look like a shawl.
The shawl is actually a bit of extra fabric sewn into the collar that provides extra warmth.
Sweater Vest
These are sleeveless sweaters that you normally wear over a shirt. They can be either round neck or v-neck. They are also listed as one of the many types of vests & waistcoats.
V-Neck Sweater
V-neck sweaters are sweaters where there’s a cut out at the neck in the shape of a V.
